Objective To systematically review current status of applying acupoint stimulation therapy in patients with low anterior resection syndrome(LARS)of rectal cancer using a scoping review, and to provide an evidence-based reference for clinical practice. Methods Based on the scoping review framework, relevant literature was systematically searched in the China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI), Wanfang Data, VIP Database, the China Medical Journal Full-text Database, Sinomed, PubMed and Web of Science from the inception to 26th April, 2025. Two researchers independently performed literature screening, data extraction and analysis. Results Sixteen studies were included. Forms of acupoint stimulation included electroacupuncture, acupuncture, auricular point pressing, and foot reflexology massage therapy. The major acupoints used were Zusanli, Tianshu and Baliao, with varied stimulation frequencies and cycles. The assessed outcomes covered patients’symptoms and functions, quality of life, and adverse reactions. The review found that acupoint stimulation had affirmative therapeutic effects in this population. Conclusion Acupoint stimulation therapy can effectively reduce defecation frequency, improve anal sphincter contractile function, and enhance the quality of life in patients with LARS. However, there is currently no uniform standard for acupoint selection, intervention frequency, and intervention duration, or other parameters. Future high-quality, multi-centre, and large-sample comparative studies are required to systematically compare the efficacy of different acupoint combinations and provide a stronger reference for postoperative rehabilitation of this population.
